My Oily Skin Nighttime Skincare Routine

My Oily Skin Nighttime Skincare Routine

Welcome back, y’all! Today’s post is all about skincare…particularly, nighttime skincare!

It took me forever to come up with a daytime and nighttime routine for my very oily skin. Years ago, it used to be out of control, but now, it’s way better!

Clap it up for moi, because I finally feel like I’m at a point in my skincare routine where I can give suggestions to others!

Disclaimer, everybody’s skin is different! What works for me might not work for you, but it never hurts to try a new product or two (that rhymed LOL).

If you’re too busy to read this post, check out the accompanying reel on my Instagram page!

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get on with today’s post!

First things first, cleanser

Before you do anything, you gotta cleanse.

What I typically use to cleanse is Bioré’s Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser! I lather it into my skin and wash it off a few moments later.

If it’s been a couple of days, I’ll use a mask instead. There’s two masks I love to use!

My go-to is a Detox Facial Mask from Walgreens. You put it on for about 15 minutes or so, before washing it off and continuing on with your skincare routine.

My other favorite mask is from as|if by nassif! I love the #GETWOKE exfoliating cleanser and mask. You can read more about my review on the mask and all of their products here!

An optional step…micellar water

This is an optional step, but important enough for me to include in the routine!

After cleansing, I sometimes like to wet my face with micellar water. While my go-to is Garnier’s SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Mattifying, I’ve been using this micellar water from Whole Foods.

Both work amazingly well. One has the typical lid where you can turn the bottle upside down and it comes out, while the other has a pump that’s much easier to use makeup rounds to get out.

The only reason I’m using the Whole Food’s brand is because Garnier’s micellar water for oily skin can be hard to find at times.

Now, time for toner!

After you’ve cleansed or used micellar water, it’s time for toner. I alternate between two toners, depending upon my mood.

More often than not, I opt for The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. It’s on the harsh side and the instructions say to use it only during the day or at night. Since I have a daytime toner, I use this at night.

I absolutely love all of The Ordinary’s products. The brand is marketed towards skincare newbies and people who don’t have hundreds of dollars to spend.

If I feel like my skin has been through hell recently, I’ll use my daytime toner at night, which is the Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Daily Blemish Toner. Another inexpensive brand perfect for newbies!

Oil time!

One of my favorite parts of my skincare routine is using oil!

I actually didn’t have nighttime oil until a few months ago. I was using my daytime one exclusively. Now, I use Makeup Revolution Skincare’s 10% Glycolic Acid Glow Serum.

Everything I use at night is on the thick side, because while you’re sleeping, your skin takes the time to repair/clean itself from daytime activities. I suggest you do that as well, even if it makes you super oily when you wake up! Trust me, it’ll be worth it in the long run.

Make sure you grab a jade roller as well. I like to chill mine, but it can be room temperature. Clean hands are fine as well!

The best part…moisturizer

If you do nothing else after cleansing, make sure you put on moisturizer before going to bed! After oils, it’s probably the most important step in your routine.

I use Makeup Revolution Skincare’s Hydration Boost Night Treatment. It’s important to get something with hydration or the word night on it. A nighttime routine is all about repairing and nourishing. You can worry about being matte during the daytime!

I put this cream in my fridge for extra hydration and the perfect cooling sensation to top off all the toning and cleansing you’ve done earlier.

Finally, them lips

Another optional step, but very important for me, is putting on a lip mask. I have a habit of picking at my lips if they’re not coated in something, so using a mask at night prevents me from doing this at night, or right when I wake up in the morning.

My favorite lip mask is this one from Milani! Apply it with your pinky and leave it on until morning. Once you take it off, your lips are as smooth as butter.

There you have it, y’all! My nighttime skincare routine for oily skin. Since I’ve implemented this routine, I’ve cut down on a lot of oil on my face and cut down my breakouts.
