Where to Find the Best Room Decor

Where to Find the Best Room Decor

Welcome back, y’all! So this year was my first year in my own apartment. The places that I previously stayed were all on campus and I never really had space to truly decorate like I wanted to.

When I got to the place I stay at now, my room was twice the size of my previous room! Suddenly, I began scooping up every poster and letter board I could find.

Today’s blog post is all about where to find the best room decor that won’t totally break the bank.

1. Five Below

Five Below is a store located in many stores in the U.S., where everything in there is $5 and under. I went to my very first one years ago and wasn’t impressed with the quality of anything at that time, so I stopped going until about a year or so ago.

They have definitely stepped up their game since then! Not only have they added more products, but the quality has also gotten better as well. Honestly, most of my wall decor does come from them.

From huge posters to inspiring canvases, when it’s all $5, you really can’t go wrong!

If you can’t find anything at your local store or you don’t have a local store, they also offer shipping (which is under $5 too)!

2. Hobby Lobby/TJMaxx/Marshalls

This trio of stores tends to be the most popular places to buy home decor. If you take a look at the Instagram of any of these companies, plenty of influencers are posting all sorts of pictures from their bedrooms and living rooms with one of these brands attached.

Personally, I find a lot of these pieces pretty pricey, so when I do buy items from these stores, I only get small things like canvases or prints.

3. Goodwill/Thrift Stores

I’ve mentioned my love of thrift stores in previous blog posts, but thrift stores like Goodwill really are the best place to find cheap mirrors, small trinkets and other things to make your place really feel like a home.

I recommend going to thrift stores or Goodwills in areas that are far away from where you reside because you can after find some awesome stuff if you get out of your neighborhood. My favorite Goodwill stores happen to be at least 20 to 30 minutes away from where I live!

4. Garage/Yard Sales

What my parents affectionally call “yard-sailing” or “garage-sailing”, try spending a few hours on a Friday or Saturday morning driving around to different areas of town in search of garage and yard sales for some room decor. My favorite rug in the world was only $10 at a garage sale after I talked the lady down from $20.

It’s very easy to find a list of garage/yard sales on your local area’s Craigslist website. Yard Sale Search and YardSales.Net are other great websites to look at too. I usually like to find community or neighborhood yard sales to go to just so I’m not wasting a lot of gas going all over town for sale after sale.

Community/neighborhood yard sales often have multiple homes participating, which means you can park in one spot and walk to a lot of homes at one time.

5. Facebook Groups

At least in my college town, people are always getting rid of wall decor, mini pieces of furniture and rugs on Facebook groups. Facebook Marketplace is also another good place to look.

Much like yard/garage sales, people are most likely just trying to get rid of their decor so you might be able to get it for super cheap! It might not always be in the best condition, so make sure you look carefully and thoroughly at your items before you buy them.

6. Amazon

Ah, Amazon. There’s plenty of great items to buy on here! Don’t lie, I’m sure most of you guys got your dorm room lights and tapestries from this website.

Amazon is great for those small little trinkets like fake succulents and lights. I personally have never gotten huge pieces of furniture from them, but as long as you read the reviews, you’ll be fine!

7. Friend’s/Parents’ House

Finally, sometimes the best places to get decor for your room is in other rooms! That weird looking cat your mom has in the living room might look creepy now, but who knows, it might be cute later!

The next time you’re at home or at a friend’s place, ask them and see if they have anything they’re trying to get rid of or don’t want anymore. You might go home with a few new pieces for your room!

I’ve gotten decor at least once by using all of these methods, but I’m sure there are plenty of other places I didn’t even add. Where do you like to get your decor? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,
